Materials and Logistics Coordinator
Location: Salmon Arm, B.C.
Position Type: Full-time
Salary Range: $60,000-$80,000 per year

The Position:
The Materials and Logistics Coordinator role coordinates and monitors the movement of products and ensures supplies, materials and products are shipped and received on schedule based on a busy manufacturing operation. Serve as an internal resource on international trade, customs compliance, and logistics best practices.
Prepares and processes all customs documents for International & U.S. shipments. The Materials and Logistics Coordinator develops and maintains lasting relationships with all stakeholders, internal and external, to build a resilient network. Assign Harmonized System (HS) codes to products and determine applicable duties and tariffs based on destination country regulations and product classification.
Able to analyze information and develop processes to enhance responsiveness to changing situations. Maintains focus and adapts to a variety of challenges. A proactive problem solver with a desire to collaborate with others.

Responsibilities:
- Research and plan the most appropriate route for a shipment while considering such factors as fragility, size, shape, quantity, cost, transit time, security, destination and required dates
- Negotiate with shipping and logistics vendors to ensure the cost effectiveness of shipments
- Resolve damage claims with vendors and ensure all necessary follow-up is completed
- Prepare shipping documentation, including packing slips, bills of lading, customs declarations, and other required paperwork with accuracy and completeness
- Assign Harmonized System (HS) codes to products and determine applicable duties and tariffs based on destination country regulations and product classification
- Ensure compliance with all customs documentation and trade regulations, maintaining current knowledge of legislation and tariff schedules that affect Valid’s supply chain
- Liaise with third parties to move goods in accordance with customer or supplier requirements
- Work closely with customers, suppliers, colleagues and third parties to ensure smooth delivery operations to deadlines
- Serve as an internal resource on international trade, customs compliance, and logistics best practices
Skills & Abilities:
- A customer service focused attitude with the ability to remain calm and tactful in stressful situations.
- Must be organized and have good time management skills
- Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of products
- Ability to provide a consistent high level of service to internal requestors and external customers while paying close attention to details
- Manage multiple requests at any given time
Requirements:
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in transportation and logistics is required. A working knowledge of export regulations, procedures and documentation is required.
- Experience preparing commercial invoices and related customs documentation in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Experience obtaining necessary permits for shipments, including oversized or special loads, as required by jurisdictional authorities.
- Preference will be given to candidates who possess a certificate or diploma in a related field. Certified Customs Specialist (CCS), equivalent certification, or current enrollment in a relevant Customs, Shipping, or Brokerage program with applicable experience is preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will also be considered.

The Electrical Estimator uses their skills to accurately and efficiently prepare solutions, cost estimates and quotations by analyzing customer proposals and requirements, while building and maintaining important relationships with all of our stakeholders.

Responsibilities:
- Discuss project requirements with customers.
- Interpret electrical and mechanical drawings.
- Identify labour, material and shipping requirements to provide solutions, cost estimates and quotations.
- Liaise with technical support team to provide cost effective solutions to customers.
- Utilize sales history to generate and manipulate estimating spreadsheets and determine appropriate margin targets.
- Good working knowledge of manufacturing processes and capabilities.
- Strong problem-solving ability with good interpersonal skills that can take on an assignment and see it through to its successful completion, independently, or as part of a team.
- A customer service focused attitude with the ability to remain calm and tactful in stressful situations.
- Must be organized and have good time management skills.
- Electrical and/or mechanical interest or aptitude is an asset.
Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

- Great attention to detail

Requirements:
- 2+ years’ experience in a related field
- A certificate or diploma in a related field is considered an asset
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Advanced Excel experience is considered an asset
- Ability to understand an ERP system
- Exhibits maturity, professionalism, and a customer-first focus
- Thrives in a fast-paced environment and able to balance competing priorities
