The individual working in this role is responsible for using electric arc welding equipment to fuse aluminum, stainless steel and steel materials to support production of Valid Manufacturing components and products. The successful candidate is required to follow general instructions and work according to established trade and shop practices, as well as being able to exercise some discretion regarding specific procedures and work methods to complete given assignments.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Sets up equipment and prepares surfaces to be welded.
  • Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to engineered drawings.
  • Inspects grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring instruments.
  • Removes rough spots from work piece using portable grinder, hand file or scraper.
  • Keeps accurate and legible time records in our time collection system using a computer.
  • Maintains workspace, tools and equipment in a safe, clean and neat condition.
  • Required to identify components and assemblies by part number, type, function, size and color.
  • Must adhere to all safety practices and procedures and work in a safe manner at all times.

 

Skills & Experience:

  • Possesses British Columbia “C” Welding Ticket (or better) and is competent in the use of electric welding equipment (i.e. GMAW, GTAW, and FCAW) and other standard tools and equipment related to the trade.
  • Experience with aluminum welding (TIG & MIG) is required.
  • Ideally will have a minimum of 2 years of welding experience in a shop environment.
  • Must be able to understand engineered drawings and specifications as well as be able to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations with limited supervision.
  • Work requires the ability to perform a variety of both simple and complex welds.

 

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in manufacturing or related industry an asset.
  • Physically fit and agile, capable of standing for long periods, stoop, kneel, and crouch at times to perform assigned tasks.
  • Has good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work independently as well as willing to contribute and participate as part of the team.

  • Fast-paced shop environment.

  • Afternoon shift required, with availability for overtime when requested.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reads shop drawings and manufactures components according to work order and drawing specifications.
  • Meets high quality standards of parts produced.
  • Ability to use computers efficiently.
  • Handles and stores material in the proper locations.
  • Uses cranes, hoists or forklifts to assist with material handling.
  • Assists programmers in producing efficient machinery operations.
  • Keeps accurate and legible time records.
  • Loads programs completed by engineering and operates the machinery to produce quality products.
  • Completes work in a timely manner according to supervisor’s direction.
  • Creates machine programs as required.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

 

Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
  • Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing as well as be able to read and understand component and assembly drawings.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work for best efficiency.
  • Achieves efficient material usage and control.
  • Must be able to produce detailed work and follow production requirements.
  • Must be able to maintain manufacturing tolerances as required while operating machinery.
  • Must be able to perform computerized functions of the machinery.

 

Requirements:

  • Previous operator experience of 6 months is required with proper training from senior employees on machine use and following all safety procedures.
  • A good working knowledge of sizes and dimensions of tubes, bars and sheeting stock.
  • A good working knowledge of basic measuring tools.
  • Employees should have beginner level computer skills (basic functions of software).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Goal-oriented mindset. Able to prioritize and manage workload.
  • Willingness to contribute and participate as part of the team.
  • Shows initiative.
  • Must be able to use hands and arms to reach for, grasp, and manipulate objects skillfully.

  • This position is subject to shift work.
